Product: 2025 Mas de Daumas Gassac, Moulin de Gassac Merlot, Pays d'Oc
The Moulin de Gassac wines were created in the early 90s by the founder of Mas de Daumas Gassac; Aimé Guibert. Following the introduction of the premium paid to farmers to pull up their vines and farm another crop, Aime began partnerships with the vine growers in this area with a view to saving its plots. Where Aime was focussed on finding the best grape cuttings to plant around the estate based on microclimate to make wines of Mas de Daumas Gassac, Moulin de Gassac is a signature given to non-estate fruit from unique plots that he views as both authentic and well suited. The Moulin de Gassac Selection played a decisive role in preventing the disappearance of this terroir.
A pleasant surprise here which helps draw me back to the enjoyments of Merlot before the film Sideways crashed the market. Fresh red summer berries, with nuances of spice. Light tannic structure presents a youthful and easy-drinking style. This is an excellent example of Merlot’s characteristics as a single varietal and should come in handy when you are next attempting to deceiver the makeup of a bordeaux blend.
