Product: 2024 Frederic Esmonin, Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru, Ruchottes Chambertin
From vines that are nearly half a century old, like the 1er Cru the nose is dominated by those fire work and slightly reduced notes but the sheer weight on the palate suggests a classic in the offing. Focussed red cherry and raspberry notes with a relatively heavy texture and fresh acidity. Very well put together - and really needs 6 years or so in the cellar. 2031 to 2042.
These wonderful vineyards will still be managed by the apparently immortal Andre, Frederic’s father, who was bottling quality reds here at les Estournelles long before the fashion for Domaine bottled Burgundy took off. The vines are managed to achieve a balance between expression and concentration, a good deal of finesse and some fat too. Andre is, in his modest way, one of the most knowledgeable of Nuits vignerons. He remembers details of vintages back to the 1950s and planted vines with his father as early as the 1940s. These wines are exclusive to Waud Handford and limited quantities are bottled for us.
