Pietrarizzo is a Contrada. This is the term used on Mount Etna to characterise an area with unique soil. Volcanic activity and varying lava flows eventually lead to new Contradas once the lava cools, settles and weathers. Pietrarizzo rests between 650-700 meters altitude it is the result of a lava flow from 1908. The soil consists of volcanic and magmatic rocks which give a low soil texture suited to drainage.
Generous lemon confit and lime sherbet to nose. Large old oak softens tartness and helps focus core of the wine into your mid-palate. Yet the natural acidity is so high that the wine feels weightless despite intense citrus nuance. Very good stuff and a clear and honest jump from the classic Bianco.
