Product: 2023 Michel Gassier, Costieres de Nimes, Nostre Pais Rouge
In his own words ‘a peasant researcher,’ Michael Gassier is a fervent defender of the region of Costières de Nîmes and dedicates his time, along with his wife Tina, to crafting wines that are “intimate expressions of my terroir and that demonstrate the potential and richness of our appellation.” Their Nostre Pais Rouge is a fully organic blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre and Carignan, grown on their most calcareous soils. It has pure black cherry aromas on the nose and opens up to reveal notes of cacao, dried sage and graphite. A full and concentrated body whilst still feeling very fresh, the wine has a clean lingering finish marked by fine tannins. This accessible wine will match well with braised veal shanks, roasted lamb with lavender and garlic or vegetable tagine. Best served 10 to 13 degrees Celsius.
