The winemaking tradition of the Brunel family goes back to the 17th century. Gaston Brunel, a famous négociant, acquired the Château de la Gardine in Châteauneuf du Pape in 1945. The estate is now run by his two sons, Maxime and Patrick with the help of their wives Maryse and Eve and some of their children and grandchildren, Marie-Odile, Philippe, Guillaume and Thibaut. The estate spreads over 52 hectares of vineyards (48 red and 4 white) and 20 hectares of forest, all gathered around the property. La Gardine is famous for its quality wine production and the uniquely shaped ‘Gardine’ bottles which are based on one Gaston found in his vineyard from the centuries before. Today around 70% of the production is exported to about 30 countries. Brunel de la Gardine’s 2023 Cairanne delivers exceptional value from one of the Southern Rhône’s rising appellations. This GSM (Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre) blend offers ripe red and black fruits, wild herbs, and subtle spice, backed by freshness from a long, balanced growing season. Lush red cherry and blackcurrant meet a twist of garrigue herbs and spice. Silky tannins and a sun-drenched finish make this Cairanne effortlessly charming yet seriously structured. Polished tannins and a stony edge make it both easy-drinking and cellar-worthy, a modern Rhône red with traditional roots. Great food pairings include Herb-crusted lamb rack or grilled lamb chops, Provençal vegetable bake and hard cheeses such as Comté or aged Gouda
