Merchant Review NR
Masters of Wine, Giles Cooke & Fergal Tynan, founded Thistledown Wines in 2010 after discovering iconic vineyard sites in the McLaren Vale, Barossa Valley and Adelaide Hills. This single vineyard that gives the grapes has a beautiful aspect, raised elevation and free-draining deep sandy soils that are the perfect spot for old dry-grown bush-vine Grenache. Vinified in concrete, they place whole bunches alternately with de-stemmed fruit to create a layer cake within the vat. A very gentle, slow fermentation is followed by maturation in oak and concrete before a careful selection is done, which is then bottled unfined and unfiltered 10 months later. Aromatics are delicate but unique and so do wonders to reflect the vineyard; boysenberry, rose petal, pink raspberry and rhubarb. This beautiful intensity somes to fruition on the palate and is enough to disquise that bustling abv! The finish is clean but long-lasting from those sandy tannins! Robert Parkers Wine Advocate 96+ Points
