From high up on the north side, there is a strip of rock running through resulting in just an 8 to 10cm layer of top soil. Damodes bears fruit with an edge of minerality and the seductive power of its immediate neighbour Vosne Romanee. This is a little more elegant and less of a blockbuster than I have come to expect. The usual dollop of red, pastille fruits smother the middle palate. This year, the acids are finer, the feel of the wine is more of elegance and delicacy. This shows the more immediate side of the 2022 vintage and I would enjoy it in relative youth. It’s a richer version of the Alliots vineyard, situated a few metres down the hill. 2026 to 2032.
