Domaine Roche de Bellene is owned by legendary winemaker Nicolas Potel. Potel worked with his father at Domaine de la Pousse d’Or and had stints at Georges Roumier, Moss Wood and Tom Dehlinger. The domaine was set up in 2005 when Nicolas purchased old vine plots in top premier cru sites after the sale of Domaine de la Pousse d’Or. The wine is a blend of two plots with vines dating back to 1962 and is and named after Jean Ferte, who was Nicolas' great uncle and, along with his father, a great mentor.

Merchant Review NR

Jean Ferte was Nicolas` great uncle and, along with his father, a great mentor. Back in the day he was the top man in Savigny. Nicolas an unusual amount of lees on racking post ferment. That’s indicative of a rich vintage. This dense red does not disappoint with its generous aromatics and piles of ripe, crushed red fruits too. It will need a year or two to melt the fine acids and tannins into those rich fruits. Immense and again, the environs of Beaune are looking to be a sweet spot for the vintage. 2026 to 2032.
