Produced on a dedicated terroir from vines that are 40 years old on average, Pagodes de Cos continues to offer an increasingly sophisticated introduction to the style of Cos d’Estournel. True to the spirit of Pagodes de Cos, the 2021 vintage is succulent, serious, and sophisticated, a wine that is delightful from a young age. Pronounced notes of blueberry, redcurrant, and strawberry are complemented by smoky, chocolate aromas and a touch of cinnamon that lend a certain complexity, making for a round, elegant, immensely enjoyable wine. The name Cos refers to a "hill of pebbles" in Gascon dialect and the name Cos d"Estournel was given in 1810 by Louis-Gaspard d"Estournel. The estate has changed hands several times during its history, starting in 1852. Since 2000, Cos d’Estournel, Second Growth in 1855, has belonged to Mr Michel Reybier. Wishing to follow the avant-garde vision of the founder and to take a decisive technical lead, in 2008 he built the first Bordeaux wine cellar working purely by gravity. This tool helps in the search for excellence at the estate and allows for the grapes to be treated with true respect. And so the great terroir of Cos d"Estournel has been further enhanced, illustrated by the Grand Vin Cos d’Estournel and Pagodes de Cos. From a 100 hectare estate, the vineyard area extends 70 hectares (170 acres), divided into 30 parcels, primarily composed of the grape varieties of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, with minor cultivation of Cabernet Franc and Petit verdot that appears to participate little in the modern production. The annual production is typically 32,000 cases. Food pairing: Roast poultry, lamb or game, mushroom risotto.
