Product: 2021 Mastroberardino, Mastro Aglianico, IGT
Aglianico is known as the ‘Barolo of the South’ due to its high level of tannin. Unlike Nebbiolo, Aglianico gives very dark fruit flavours and a Syrah-like olive spiciness. The Campania region is influenced by Mount Vesuvius at endows the surrounding soil with volcanic minerals. The Aglianico used here is a blend of vineyards from volcanic rock and silty clay so it is far smoother than classic ‘Taurasi’ with oaked flavours of cinnamon and cedar. A great entry into Southern Italian reds if you are a Bordeaux lover.
