Gaston Brunel, a famous négociant, acquired the Château de la Gardine in Châteauneuf du Pape in 1945. The estate spreads over 52-hectares of vineyards and 20-hectares of forest, all gathered around the property. La Gardine is famous for its quality wine production and the uniquely shaped ‘Gardine’ bottles which are based on one Gaston found in his vineyard from the centuries before.
From 40 to 60-year-old vines famously grown on “galets roulés”, the Gardine Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2021 is aged for up to 14 months in oak before bottling. Deep purple in colour, the nose is full of black fruit, spice, coffee and liquorice, with a lift of violet at the end. The palate has distinctive notes of tobacco and leather with velvety tannins.
