Product: 2021 Croix Ducru-Beaucaillou
From the St Julien appellation in Bordeaux, the La Croix Ducru-Beaucaillou 2021 is refined and soft with supple tannins. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a small amount of Petit Verdot for added spice, this is a great cuvee that captivates the senses. Blackcurrant, cedar and tobacco on the nose, the palate is full of black cherry and spice. This will cellar well over the next few years. This estate owes its name to the “beautiful pebbles” (“beaux cailloux”) on which their vines grow – poor in nutrients, the roots must bury deep into the ground. Planted to 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc, the vineyards span 50 hectares of St Julien. The Borie family have owned the estate since 1942, although its history dates back 300 years to 1720 – before this it was part of the Beychevelle estate. Food matches: Perfect with mushroom or truffle-based dishes.
