Château Bouscaut rouge, a Classified Growth of Graves, adds to its traditional deep and fleshy merlot variety, the structured and elegant Cabernet Sauvignon, some unusual and very spicy Malbec and Petit Verdot. Vinification takes place in stainless steel and concrete tanks and is followed by ageing in 40% new oak barrels for 12 months. The 2021 has a nose of delicate nougat, some cassis and blackberries, subtle savoury herbal notes, candied orange zest. The palate is medium-bodied, red berry fruit, fresh, well structured, discreet tannins, mineral-citric finish with a hint of redcurrant on the back palate. First called Haut-Truchon, Château Bouscaut"s vineyard dates back to the 17th century on the commune of Cadaujac. In 1881, it is named Château Le Bouscaut after the name of the village. The neighbouring estate, Château Valoux, is acquired by Château Bouscaut in 1929. In the thirties, Château Bouscaut is cited as a model by the Chamber of Agriculture and a race horse called Château Bouscaut wins many prices in coveted yearlings races. At the same time, a tower is added to the main residential building and the roof is elevated. The Château is awarded the envied status of Grand Cru Classé de Graves, for both its white and red wines in 1953. In 1962, the château is destroyed by a fire while the cellars remain fortunately untouched. The owner, Victor Place, overees its reconstruction to the exact original plans, before selling it to a group of investors from New York in 1968. Bouscaut is acquired in 1979 by Lucien and Marie-Jeanne Lurton. Well known Bordeaux winemaker, Lucien Lurton, who already owned at least ten other prestigious Châteaux in appellations such as Margaux (Brane-Cantenac he first inherited in 1954) or Barsac (Climens) had seen the potential and exceptional terroir of Château Bouscaut. Sophie Lurton, their daughter, inherited the estate in 1992 and manages the estate with her husband Laurent Cogombles, who was President of the Appellation Pessac-Léognan from 2005 to 2017. In 1999 Château Lamothe-Bouscaut is acquired by Château Bouscaut : it is a 9 hectares vineyard surrounding a charming manor house in the place called Le Bouscaut. At Château Bouscaut improvements in the vineyard and the cellars are continuous: a circular tank room is made in 1990 and a concrete tank room in 2002. In 2010, a 300m² red ageing cellar pops up : it has the particularity of being covered with barrel staves and is the creation of Arnaud Boulain. Food pairing: A perfect match with Asian dishes, hearty fish such as tuna or monkfish, mushrooms, and cheese.
