The joint vision of two of the wine worlds most well known names, Rothschild and Vega Sicilia, Macán emerged from the bowels of La Rioja. A wine of yesteryear and today that respects the most authentic and typical style of a prestigious region. Predominantly old vine Tempranillo the 2020 vintage has the smallest inclusion of Graciano for added freshness in a hot year. After the alcoholic fermentation, the malolactic process is carried out in barrels and in tanks. The ageing takes place in extra fine and fine grain French wood, the majority in new barrels and the rest in one-wine barrels. It remains in wood for 15 months and then in bottles until it is sold. The nose is Intense and layered, with notes of blackcurrant, ripe plum, graphite, wild herbs, and subtle floral hints, framed by touches of sweet spice and toasted earth. The palate Full-bodied and structured, with firm yet refined tannins, a juicy core of black fruit, and a long, brooding finish. Vega Sicilia, an iconic wine producer in Spain’s Ribera del Duero region, is celebrated for its legendary wines, particularly its flagship Unico. Founded in 1864, Vega Sicilia combines centuries-old winemaking traditions with meticulous attention to detail and modern innovations. The estate’s vineyards, planted with Tempranillo and other Bordeaux varietals, benefit from the unique terroir and microclimate of the region. Vega Sicilia’s wines are known for their elegance, complexity, and remarkable ageing potential. Food Pairing: Venison with black currant jus, beef wellington, braised oxtail, and mature hard cheeses.
