Product: 2020 Le Cloitre du Chateau Prieure Lichine, Margaux
Aged in 40% new oak barrels, the Prieuré-Lichine 2020 is a blend of 65% Cabernet, 30% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. The wine is a deep ruby colour in the glass with aromas of ripe red fruits, delicate florals, and a hint of chocolate. The palate is silky and fresh with polished, well-integrated tannins and a lengthy finish. This wine will cellar well over the next couple of decades. Château Prieuré-Lichine is a classified Fourth Growth estate in Bordeaux’s Margaux appellation. Formally a priory founded by monks during the Roman era, its wines have enjoyed a fine reputation from the very beginning. In 1951, after a period of devastation from mildew, phylloxera and the Great Depression, the estate was bought by Alexis Lichine. This period was to herald the renaissance of newly named Prieuré-Lichine, until his passing in 1989. Owned today by the Ballande group, there is a focus on hospitality at this winery – they welcome visitors every day of the week, all year round – a rarity for an estate of this stature. Food matches: This pure Margaux style will pair well with all traditional French dishes and of course, French cheese.
