From a blend of 74% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon, the Ferrand 2020 is crystalline with a dazzling nose. Floral aromas mingle with red fruits, spice, coffee beans and wet earth whilst the palate offers incredible freshness. With a velvety mouthfeel and silky tannins, this is a wine of pure elegance and refinement. Excellent cellaring potential. Today, Château Ferrand is owned and run by Pauline Bich Chandon-Moët and her husband Phillipe Chandon-Moët, with the estate only changing hands once (in 1970) in its history, which dates back to 1702. The couple’s commitment to quality bore fruit in 2012, when Château Ferrand became a Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé. The vineyards are planted on clay-limestone soils on the hillsides of Saint-Hippolyte and sit at around 100 metres above sea level, making it one of the highest vineyards in the Saint-Emilion appellation. Plantings are predominantly Merlot (70%) followed by Cabernet Franc (29%) and a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon (1%). Wines are matured in fine-grained French oak for 14 to 18 months depending on the vintage. Food matches: Wonderful with beef wellington, macaroni cheese and confit duck legs.
