Product: 2019 Querciabella, Turpino, IGT
Querciabella Turpino is an intense ruby red with purple hues. Ripe on the nose, sweet aromas of cherries and berries and elegant notes of violets and rose petals meld into spices, white pepper and cedarwood as this juicy, expressive wine opens up in the glass. On the palate, the wine is perfectly balanced with very finely-textured tannins and good acidity. The flavours stay persistent and long, pleasantly tightening up on the finish. The name Querciabella is entirely appropriate to this estate in Chianti, which is surrounded by a sheltering forest of magnificent trees. Sebastiano Castiglioni is at the helm of one of the most innovative wineries in Italy, spearheading vegan and biodynamic practices in his two estates. Helped by the incredibly talented South African winemaker Manfred Ing, Querciabella are releasing not only some of the purest expressions of Chianti Classico but also venturing into Super-Tuscan territory with Camartina and Palafreno. Querciabella are also responsible for one of the most acclaimed Italian whites, Batàr, alongside a range of exciting Maremma wines. Food matches: Rich in savoury notes, this wine calls for a dish with lots of savoury, umami flavours.
