The Terroir de Familia Carmenère 2019 comes from Chile’s Colchagua Valley appellation and is aged in a combination of stainless-steel tanks and old oak barrels, as well as spending 4 months in bottle, before it is released. A violet-red colour in the glass, the nose is full of black cherries, thyme, lilac and menthol aromas. The palate is soft with well-integrated tannins and a long, persistent finish. The Silva family have been producing wine in the Colchagua Valley for over 100 years and have four vineyard sites throughout the DO. A variation of vineyard sites, plus cooling influences from the Andes and proximity to the Pacific, allows Casa Silva to grow a large variety of grapes including Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Syrah, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Malbec and Carmenère to name a few. In 2006, the Silva family began planting Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Riesling vines in Chilean Patagonia, one of the most remote wine growing regions in the world – not to mention one of the coolest climates. They are striving to be the most family-friendly vineyard in Chile and seek to protect their traditions, values and relationships with the community for future generations. Food matches: Try it with spaghetti bolognaise or slow-cooked beef shin with mashed potato.
