With remarkable intensity, Querciabella Camartina is testimony to the harmonious vintage. Dark, succulent fruit stand out in a finely detailed bouquet where black cherries, plums, currant and myrtle merge with delicate floral notes and sensations of warm spices, herbs and mint. The Cabernet Sauvignon, which reached perfect maturation in 2018, slowly reveals its savoury quality and leads both the flavour profile and sumptuous structure. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and supple, with firm tannins and tangy acidity in perfect balance with the fruit concentration. Its complexity and persistence craft a satisfying textural finish.

The name Querciabella is entirely appropriate to this estate in Chianti, which is surrounded by a sheltering forest of magnificent trees. Sebastiano Castiglioni is at the helm of one of the most innovative wineries in Italy, spearheading vegan and biodynamic practices in his two estates. Helped by the incredibly talented South African winemaker Manfred Ing, Querciabella are releasing not only some of the purest expressions of Chianti Classico but also venturing into Super-Tuscan territory with Camartina and Palafreno. Querciabella are also responsible for one of the most acclaimed Italian whites, Batàr, alongside a range of exciting Maremma wines.

Food matches: Querciabella’s original Super Tuscan demands a dish with substantial weight: mushrooms are an ideal canvas for many dishes that can marry Camartina’s savouriness, but there’s a variety of plant-based dishes you can play around with.
