Product: 2018 Protos, Ribera del Duero, Reserva
Protos Reserva comprises hand-harvested old vine Tempranillo fermented in steel tank, matured 18 months in French and American oak, and a further 24 in the bottle. The result is full-bodied with concentration and depth that receives high critic scores. Aromas of fresh blackberry, plum, and raspberry are interwoven with licorice, toasty vanilla, and pepper. The palate, powerful and fruit-forward mirrors the nose with a persistent but balanced finish. Bodegas Protos, meaning "first" in Greek, has a rich history of almost 100 years, their ethos is to listen to and respect the terror treating each parcel individually as they strive to be first in their class. The vineyards span an enormous 1,400 hectares throughout the Ribera del Duero, Rueda and Cigales DO’s, with some of the vines aged between 50 and 100 years old. The soils are a mixture of loam-clay-sand, as well as some limestone and silt sitting between 750 - 800 meters above sea level. The climate is continental with Mediterranean influence. A gourmands wine to be paired with hearty casserole, grilled red meat, cream-based sauces, and rich cheeses.
