Merchant Review NR
The Laird is in limited production (646 dozen) and comes from a remarkable single vineyard owned by Malcolm Seppelt that David Powell had coveted for 15 years. The production involved normal open fermentation and basket pressing then, following Guigal’s “La La’s”, it spent three years in new and hideously expensive Tardieu-Laurent French barriques with staves 45mm thick. The oak is embedded in the fruit, supporting not overwhelming it; layer upon layer of gloriously complex flavours, the tannins superbly weighted. A magnificent wine from a great vintage. 14.8% alc, cork. (97/100 James Halliday)
