Merchant Review NR
A wine characterized by its fine understated Bordeaux style. The latest vintage has further reduced the Cabernet Franc to 5% status with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot making up the rest of the cuvee in almost 50% portions. Herbal and violet nose follows to a tart sour cherries and black berry, chocolate palate that displays a fine tannin and acid balance, suggesting extended aging will do the wine wonders. The 1999 is juicier and fruitier than the 1998 and has a general lushness about it. Drinking well now (as the IWC 2002 Gold Medal attests) but will definitely improve further. We tasted the 1990 Trilogy recently (May) and were wooed by its total Bordeaux-like bottle age of herbs, tea leaf, tomato puree and aniseed cassis fruit. Perfect balance. Sensational. The 2004 from a super vintage was one of thes best wines tasted at the Wines of South Africa trade show and recently received (Oct 2006) 95/100 in the American Wine Enthusiast Magazine!
