Product: NV Giacomo Fenocchio Anima Arancio Arneis
Fenocchio is a reputable Barolo producer in the south of the region. Like all Barolo producers, the cantinas have a small selection of local indigenous grapes to choose from when producing white wine. Traditionally the most popular choice has been Roero Arneis which thrives in the sandy soils north of the Tanaro river that hugs the Barbaresco region. But cellar master Roberto doesn’t like the Arneis his own winery produces. In the high yielding vintage of 2020, he siphoned some of the Arneis juice into a bespoke amphora tank to produce a skin contact style as inspired by the Friulians. Rather than weeks, the skin contact lasted months yet the result is profoundly ethereal and gently unwinds it’s textural depth on your palate. It has amaro-esque spice as well as broom flowers and fresh peaches. Very versatile.
