Product: 2020 Mas Daumas Gassac, Vin Pays Rouge, IGP Double Magnum
Mas de Daumas Gassac Rouge is produced from predominantly un-cloned king Cabernet Sauvignon, which reigned supreme in the Medoc before 1914, with up to 18+ other grapes. Dark red in colour, it has complex notes of tart red fruit and black plum with a touch of leather. This wine is mouthfilling with powerful tannins and a ripe fruit finish. It has excellent acidity.
This is a vintage with fine tannins and tremendous ageing potential. A vintage to discover, an enchanting wine made of velvet and silk! A timeless wine, drink it while young to relish its elegant fruitiness. Alternatively, put it down, knowing that in 7 or 15 years this wine will be truly superb. Serve in a large Balloon glass and open 3 to 4 hours before serving with cork or decant, with stopper.
With the vineyard’s history dating all the way back to 780 AD, Mas de Daumas Gassac is a superstar producer. In 1971, The Daumas family bought an abandoned “Mas” (farmhouse) and mill located in the heart of a beautiful wild valley through which flowed the Gassac river, and planted vines in clearings in the middle of 4,000 hectares of forest. The first vintage of their flagship Red was produced in 1978 from roughly 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, grown from an exceptional terroir. Today, the children of the family manage the estate, storing their harvests in an old cellar underneath the original mill. Famously described as the ‘First Growth of the Languedoc’, Mas de Daumas Gassac remains a truly unique producer in the region.
