The Foral de Évora Red 2019 is a rich and expressive blend of Trincadeira, Alicante Bouschet, and Aragonez grapes, rooted in the winemaking traditions of the Évora region. This wine boasts complex aromas of ripe fruit with earthy undertones, enhanced by twelve months of ageing in French and American oak barrels. On the palate, it is full-bodied and balanced, offering smooth tannins, a touch of spice, and a long, elegant finish. With its deep connection to the history and terroir of Évora, this wine encapsulates the region’s centuries-old tradition of winemaking.
The legendary Cartuxa winery is named after the Carthusian monastery next to which it is located. That monastery was once bought by the De Almeida family and is now back in the hands of the monastic order, but the founder of Cartuxa, Eugénio de Almeida, started growing grapes on the lands. And where the Carthusian monks lead an extremely sober and closed life, the wines of Cartuxa are anything but. Rich, full-bodied and fruit-dominated wines, beautifully balanced and never bulky. Located in Evora, in the Alentejo region of Portugal, Adega Cartuxa is housed in the Quinta do Valbom estate which was built in 1540 as a residence for Jesuit priests and became part of the Portuguese National Heritage in 1755. The winery was founded in 1896 and today operates under the auspices of the Eugenio Almeida Foundation, which is devoted to a wide range of agricultural projects. Their 750 acres of vineyards make them one of the largest and most prestigious operations in the region.
