Waud Wines Summer Portfolio Tasting
We held our first Waud Wines Summer Portfolio tasting for a number of years last night at the iconic members wine club - 67 Pall Mall. We welcomed an intimate group to try 30 wines from our 600+ strong wine list - and we were pleased to pre-launch our new Members' Selection Red and White wines from Southern France in the Languedoc. After starting with a fizz reception, where we enjoyed the Rathfinny Classic Cuvee Brut 2018, Mas de Daumas Gassac Rosé Frizant 2022 as well as a Non Vintage Champagne by Ayala. This was then a great opportunity to try a couple of our rosé wines, from Vondeling in South Africa at £11.50, our best selling Argali Rosé from Puech Haut, and also a little San Marzano Tramari rosé from Puglia in Italy. We have always focused on our French wines, and so the French table was predictably popular with the Viognier from Louis Cheze, our new Members Selection Red and White from Languedoc - very well priced at £12.95 before member discount! We also enjoyed a slighter older Doucinello some Le Sang des Cailloux, trying the 2014 vintage. Then a classic Pomerol to round things off with L'Enclos Pomerol 2014. Spain was up next, with representation from Clos Pons in Costers del Segre, Roda from Rioja, Arzuaga from Ribera del Duero, Coto de Gomariz from Galicia. Italy was the penultimate table, with some super wines from San Marzano, Emiliano Falsini, Benito Ferrera, Cantele and one crowd favourite Passori Rosso from Veneto. Our rest of the world table was very well supported and received plenty of praise. We had Musar 2016 from Lebanon, Chenin Blanc and also Pinotage from Wildekrans in Hermanus, South Africa. Kilikanoon wines from Clare Valley in Australia was very popular, as well as two wines from Ramos Pinto, a famous winery that has estates in the Douro, Portugal. The La Crema Chardonnay from Sonoma Coast in California was well received as one of the wines of the night - and popular wine Caelum from Argentina also suited a number of palates. We look forward to hosting more events at 67 Pall Mall in due course - and we will try and secure some early dates for your diaries in 2023.
