Tour de France tasting for CBRE
A busy week in the lives of CBRE - as we host our third tasting with them in the space of a week - this time a Tour de France tasting in our cellar in South Ken.
20 guests joined us for a lovely flight of wines - starting with a couple of glasses of Champagne Delamotte Brut NV in the shop. A chardonnay dominated champagne that is in the same group as the iconic Salon Champagne - but this time at a snip of the price at £35 per bottle. (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!)
As we made our way to the cellar - we moved on to the first of two whites. First up from Roger Neveu, we tasted the gorgeous Pouilly Fume 2024. A sauvignon with citrus notes that everyone enjoyed. This was followed up shortly by the Gerard Thomas Champ Tirant 2023 from the Saint Aubin appellation, next door to the much more renowned Puligny Montrachet. We had pretty much a 50/50 split on the room on this two wines.
As we moved onto the reds, we paired them with the excellent charcuterie and cheese boards from the local Chanteroy South Ken shop - will certainly be using them again for this spread!
From Chateauneuf du Pape, we tasted Chateau de la Gardine Chateauneuf-du-Pape Rouge 2022 - a blend with Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre as the headline varietals. Lovely notes of spice, garrigue and dark fruits. This was complimented and contrasted by the next wine on show - the Chateau Angludet 2022 from Margaux on the Left Bank in Bordeaux. An interesting wine that was actually Merlot dominated for this vintage - very rare for the Left Bank, that is typically Cabernet Sauvignon dominant. Again, the room was pretty split here on their preference on the red wines.
In usual form - all guests competed in the coveted MYSTERY WINE TASTING COMPETITION - where they had to complete the multiple choice form to correctly identify the Region, Grape Variety, Vintage and Price. Congratulations for Francesca and Rosie for their fine victory! The wine was Jean Marc Millot Cote de Nuits-Villages Rouge 2023.
