Rioja versus Ribera del Duero Tasting

We held a fabulous Rioja versus Ribera del Duero tasting last week in the shop cellar at Old Brompton Road. With 11 customers and friends, we enjoyed an excellent compare and contract tasting of iconic Spanish wines, including icon estates such as Muga, Protos and Arzuaga.

Following the Muga Conde De Haro Cava on arrival, we head down to the cellar for the first flight - a Protos Verdejo Reserva 2020 from Rueda, pitched against Flor de Muga Blanco 2021 – that was universally enjoyed.

The first flight of reds served up Arzuaga Crianza 2022 versus Muga Reserva 2021. 2021 is an epic vintage in Spain – and the Muga was showing perfectly.

Finally, for the big boys battle – we had Protos Gran Reserva 2015 versus Muga Prado Enea 2016. Both wines tasted very well, with the room pretty much split with their preference.
