Renaissance Wine Tasting for Hugh James

Renaissance Wine Tasting for Hugh James

May 5, 2026by Charles Waud

Last week we hosted a very memorable tasting with Hugh James at The RAG in St James'.

20 guests joined us for this super flight of wines - starting with the very popular Langham Corallian Classic Cuvee NV from Dorset in the South West.

The two whites went down a treat - first the Francesco Rinaldi e Figli Gavi 2024 followed by the iconic Antinori Bramito del Cervo, IGT 2024. Both well received, with the Bramito just about coming out on top.

Then onto the reds - Francesco Rinaldi e Figli, Barbera d'Alba 2024 was poured first - and again won the plaudits, just before serving the big boy - Montresor, Amarone della Valpolicella, Fondatore 2019.

In traditional style, everyone entered the MYSTERY WINE COMPETITION. A wine served blind from decanter - with multiple choice questions. Congratulations to Sonia Shah for getting all 5 questions right - for country, region, grape variety, vintage and price. Sonia took home a bottle of the mystery wine - Casanuova di Nittardi Vigna Doghessa Chianti Classico 2022.

Many thanks to Roman Kubiak at Hugh James for inviting us to host this tasting with them - and we look forward to many more events in the future.
