EAGB Summer Party 2022

EAGB Summer Party 2022

We were very pleased to be invited back to host The Executives' Association of Great Britain's Summer Party at Gordon Ramsay's The Narrow in Limehouse. With 40 EAGB Members and Guests, we enjoyed an Old World versus New World tasting, where we tried magnums of Rathfinny Classic Cuvvee 2016 on arrival - this is our favourite English Sparkling from East Sussex - followed by Vondeling Chardonnay 2019 from Voor Paardeberg in South Africa. This was a wine that went down particularly well, especially by the Sauvignon Blanc lovers, that was a nice surprise. Next up was from one of our more niche growers, Michel Gassier from Costieres de Nimes in Southern France. Costieres de Nimes sits nicely between Southern Rhone and the Languedoc. Michel Gassier Nostre Pais Blanc 2020 is a stunning blend of Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Roussanne and Viognier. Moving onto the reds, we pulled out a Waud Wines stalwart - the Jimenez Landi Sotorrondero 2018 from Mentrida in Spain. A bio-dynamic vineyard, with this wine being 60% Garnacha and 40% Syrah. On a boiling hot day, this wine went down a treat - and possibly the best wine of the day. The last red before the blind tasting came from Southern Australia - slightly left field from Kilikanoon from Clare Valley. 100% Shiraz - this was comfortably the biggest wine of the tasting - that did fortunately go down a treat. In true Waud Wines style, for the last wine we showed a wine blind from a decanter - giving guests 5 multiple choice answers to deal with. For once this was probably a little too difficult, with 3 people out of 40 only getting 3 answers out of 5 answers right. Fortunately in the tie break situation, Neveen Galal took the spoils guessing that the blind wine was from the Old World, from Italy, from Veneto, with the majority grape variety being Merlot. The Passori Rosso at £14.50 per bottle is an absolute steal. A very good afternoon in fine company. Many thanks to Gordon Ramsay Group for providing a great venue, with David and Martha from their team doing a fabulous job looking after us. The power of networking is infectious and you leave the event relatively sozzled, but also incredibly energised after meeting a fantastic group of people.
