City Corporate Wine Tasting at The Don

City Corporate Wine Tasting at The Don

Jul 1, 2026by Charles Waud

Last week, we held a very memorable wine tasting with two host companies - Alpha Alternatives and Bunch - and relatively new Fund Administrator in the market.

25 guests joined us in one of the vaulted cellars at The Don in Swithin's Lane on one of the hottest days of the year. Plenty of water was consumed on arrival, before tucking into the Langham Corallian Classic Cuvee from Dorset in England. A tiny nod to the England footballers in the current World Cup.

We then followed with a flight of wines with representation from some of the great regions of the Mediterranean. Alongside some of the best canapes we have had ever at a venue - we started with Louis Cheze Viognier from Northern Rhone, then head to Italy to taste one of our favourite white wines from Piedmont - Francesco Rinaldi e Figli Gavi. This was a real crowd pleaser!

Then onto the reds, so accompany the fabulous steak and chips, we travelled to Rioja to try the Urbina Gran Reserva 2001 - this was arguably the favourite wine of the night. The final red before the Mystery Wine Competition was from Margaux on the Left Bank of Bordeaux - Chateau Angludet 2022.

After 6 or 7 glasses of wines tasted, it took no encouragement to get the whole room to take part in our blind wine tasting competition. A series of multiple choice questions where guests have to correctly assign a Country, Region, Grape Variety, Year and Price point to become our champion of the evening.

We did put a fairly left field wine in here, to give a nod to the Bunch CEO, who from Germany, did not actually pick this Riesling from Germany! Everyone did love the Donnhoff Dry Slate Riesling from Nahe in Germany!

Another very enjoyable evening - as we look forward to hosting more Corporate Wine Tastings throughout the Summer.

As always, please get in touch with us if you are interested in hosting a Corporate Wine Tasting.
